Being productive can make life easier for you and give you extra time to pursue the things you want. In order to have a productive day you have to remember it boils down to having a work life balance and staying organized. Here are six tips to help you be more productive in the New Year!

  1. Use a planner to stay organized and make “to-do lists”

By using a planner you will accomplish more because you are organized and aware of everything, which will eliminate missing events and forgetting about things.

There are only so many hours in the day, but by prioritizing things you will be able to get more done which will end up being better for you and your big picture goals. Studies show that by simply keeping a planner and writing down your daily activities you will visually be able to see what you have planned and schedule more events and be less stressed.

  1. Start the day by exercising

Studies have found that people who start their day by exercising have more energy and a happier outlook on life. Both of these things are important and play a huge role in getting things done. Getting your body moving for as little as 10 minutes releases GABA, a neurotransmitter that makes your brain feel soothed and keeps you in control of your impulses. Exercising first thing in the morning ensures that you’ll have the time for it, and it improves your self-control and energy levels all day long.

  1. Eat a real breakfast

By getting a substantial meal first thing in the morning you are giving your body more energy which will allow you to concentrate better on tasks. By eating breakfast you will also satisfy your body’s hunger whether you feel hungry or not.

  1. Setting goals for the day and week

Extensive research shows that people who make task lists for the day will get more done and feel better about themselves. They will have more confidence in day-to-day interactions with other people. By setting goals you’ll have better focus on individual tasks and avoid potential distractions. Goals help you accomplish little things that are aligned with your bigger picture goals.

  1. Being able to say “No”

To have your most productive day you need to be able to say no to things and people if you don’t have time for them. Saying no to a new commitment honors your existing commitments and gives you the opportunity to successfully fulfill them while your mind is fresh. Research conducted at the University of California in San Francisco showed that the more difficulty that you have saying no, the more likely you are to experience stress, burnout, and even depression. Learn to use no, and it will lift your mood as well as your productivity.

  1. Have a consistent routine

Having a routine that you do every morning is really important because repetition creates less of a grey area which results in less stress. Routines are also shown to provide more structure and stability which instills good habits and a healthier life style.
